Sustainable food & agriculture
Practical growing, nutrition and livelihood approaches that strengthen healthier local food systems.
Who we are
Nurtiva is a community-led initiative in Rwanda working with young people and local communities to strengthen food systems, protect water, restore living landscapes, and turn local ideas into action.
How we work
Community-led work means people are involved before decisions are fixed. We make space for questions, choices, shared action and learning that can change what happens next.
Start with what people say is needed, missing or already working.
Agree on priorities, roles and the practical next step.
Build, test and maintain solutions with the people who live with them.
Ask what changed, what failed and what should happen differently next.
What we care about
Our work connects everyday wellbeing with the living systems communities depend on.
Practical growing, nutrition and livelihood approaches that strengthen healthier local food systems.
Community stewardship around the water sources, rivers and wetlands people and ecosystems rely on.
Restoring soil, biodiversity and living landscapes through locally shaped action and long-term care.
Art, music, storytelling and shared making that invite people to question, learn and shape action together.
What we are building
Our current work connects food, water, young people and restoration through practical community participation.

Stories & learning
It started with a family farm, a question about why young people were turning away from agriculture, and a belief that farming could be experienced differently.
Our direction
By 2031, Nurtiva aims to expand community-led agriculture, water access, land restoration, youth training and solar irrigation across Rwanda.
Grow and distribute 100,000 fruit, shade and agroforestry trees.
Improve reliable water access for 10,000 people.
Restore 250 hectares of degraded farmland, riverbanks and community land.
Train 5,000 young people through Indatana Movement Clubs.
Establish 200 household, school and demonstration gardens.
Install 300 solar-powered irrigation systems.
Keep us accountable
A community-led approach only works if people can disagree, redirect and improve the work. We ask what is missing, what should change, and who should shape what happens next.
